The Princess and the Fog

Some examples from my current university portfolio. I am working on the theme of depression. These are a couple of paintings I produced based on my own personal experience with the subject matter:

Close up on the middle bit of the second painting. A heart, in a box. Protected from the encroaching darkness but closely confined and not altogether safe:

Some sketchbook pieces. Exploring visual metaphors of depression. How it feels to carry this big burdensome monster around with you.

I'm currently working towards putting together a picture book for children. Up until very recently, it was believed that children could not suffer from depression. The story I am producing is intended to fill a gap in the market and to guide younger minds through a very difficult experience. As well as providing a talking point between young depressives, who may otherwise have trouble expressing themselves, and their parents or carers.

There's A Hole In Your Chest books now available

My new comic There's A Hole In Your Chest is now available in book format. You can buy it from my online store here. If you missed out on the first book There's A Hole In My Chest you can also now buy both of them together for the discounted price of £10! Click here for that.

They make great gift items for anyone in your life who suffers from mental health issues and is struggling to come to terms with it.

The first book There's A Hole In My Chest is of course still available here to purchase on its own as well.

There's A Hole In Your Chest

New comic. A followup from my 2012 comic There's A Hole In My Chest. This one's a little more general. It was made for personal reasons but will be put up for sale soon. Please spread the word and share it with your unhappy friends and relatives. I'm told the first comic really struck a chord with people and I'm hoping this will do the same.

Another painting of William Shakespeare, for my mum's birthday:

Some dumb stuff from my sketchbooks:

And some old stuff that I thought was strangely poignant:

new birds!

Finished up a new set of these little paintings of common garden and city birds. Each is on a 5"x5" shallow canvas. Acrylic paint, ink drawings, ink stamped lettering and dry transfer lettering on a base of light collage.

Each of these, along with each of the first batch that I showed off last time, are available in this new section of my Etsy for only £10 each plus shipping. Great gift items. :)

new painting series, some other stuff

A few new paintings just finished.

All acrylic paint and ink on various surfaces.

1.5"x2.5" piece of cardboard I found and decided to paint a little victorian on. Might leave this somewhere as a Free Art Friday giveaway.

4"x6" pieces of board. Another victorian/regular modern handsome mustache dude, and some red wine.

5"x5" canvases with light paper collage background. A couple of cute one-off whatevers and a new series I'll probably keep going with featuring birds! Great gift items for bird-lovers. Each one is also adorned with the common name of the bird in stamped letters and the latin name in dry-transfer letters.
